28 May 2015, Press Releases

CHILDREN are being encouraged to put on their thinking caps at this year's Lincolnshire Show as one of the county's biggest attractions of the year offers young visitors the chance to learn about food and farming.

Treasure hunts, cookery classes and educational challenges are just some of the activities being offered at this year's Show.

Taking place on 24 and 25 June at the Lincolnshire Showground, organisers are pulling out all the stops to not only entertain young visitors but to educate them on all things Lincolnshire.

This year, the Show has created a special activity pack, jam-packed with games, quizzes and information about the Show, designed to teach children about farming, food and local produce.

Jayne Southall, CEO for Lincolnshire Showground, said the new activities have been put in place to encourage more young people to take an interest in agriculture.

She said: "A large part of the Show celebrates Lincolnshire heritage and we believe that it is not only important to teach them about Lincolnshire but to also get them enthusiastic about farming, food and local produce around the county.

"As we are always keen to educate children, this year we have a created a host of activities as well as an activity book to keep them entertained.

"We have also added special content to our website this year called the Kid Zone. Children will be able to play games and download the activity pack."

A highlight from the show will see younger visitors enjoying a treasure hunt around the Countryside Area, spotting the different animals on show and attractions.

Each child will be able to write their answers in the activity book, and once handed back in, they could be in with a chance of winning a family pass to Rand Farm.

The Schools' Challenge is also returning to the show this year as different Lincolnshire schools will be entering the competition and competing for the prestigious Schools' Challenge Champions 2015 title, in front of a panel of judges.

Categories include 'reducing my school footprint', 'the great gardening challenge' and 'my healthy school'.

For the keen young bakers and chefs at the show, they will be able to enjoy a variety of cooking classes in the food area, designed to suit even the fussiest eater.

Ruth Wilkinson from Wooden Spoon and Whisk will be teaching younger show visitors the importance of eating well with a step by step guide of how to make delicious heathy wraps.

Jayne added: "The Lincolnshire Show is always a great family day out as there is always something to suit everybody's taste, whether it be adults or children.

"This year is no different as we have taken every step to help families have a great day out and enjoy the show as much as we do. Whether it be the fantastic treasure hunt or the variety of farm animals, we think that the Show will be the most enjoyable one yet."

There will be a variety of entertainment, food stalls, animal displays and cookery demonstrations to make this year's Show the biggest and best one yet.

The Kangaroo Kid - a stuntman from Brisbane will be rocking the Clydesdale Bank Main Ring with his quadbike antics with some of the most dangerous stunts possible.

For those heading to the Countryside Ring, there will be a spectacular variety of birds on display from Cuerden Falconry – including owls, hawks and eagles.
